Dr. Charles Niles is a Board Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Glaucoma Society. He is the first Fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist in Western New York. He specializes in both glaucoma and cataract surgery.

Dr. Niles uses a myriad of both laser and surgical techniques to customize patient care. These include laser-assisted cataract surgery with mutifocal and toric intraocular lenses for cataract patients. To customize glaucoma therapy, Dr. Niles uses several different types of laser technologies and many surgically implantable glaucoma devices. He also performs MIGS (minimally or micro invasive glaucoma surgery) procedures.

Dr. Niles is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UB Medical School. He continues to do research and most recently completed research on the effect of laser-assisted cataract surgery on intraocular pressure, accepted for presentation at the National Meeting of the American Glaucoma Society. Using a grant from the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus he started the Student Sight Savers program, which screened patients in underserved area of Western New York for glaucoma.

Dr. Niles has participated in international medical efforts to combat glaucoma by traveling with ORBIS (The Flying Eye Hospital).

Dr. Charles Niles remains involved with the UB Medical as Past President of the Medical Alumni Association. Dr. Niles is a past president of the Buffalo Ophthalmological Society.
